Women in Power (Women Voice and Leadership Project)

Background: Improved enjoyment of human rights through empowerment and leadership of traditional women leaders, elected women members of Union Parishad and youth girls (secondary level, grade 8 -10 and higher secondary level, grade 11 – 12) in three (03) selected upazilas (Kaptai, Jurachari & Barkal) of Rangamati district.

Outcome 1: Increased skill and capacity of targeted women and youth girls on gender equality, empowerment and leadership.

Outcome 2: Increased leadership practices of youth girls (secondary level, grade 8 – 10 and higher secondary level, grade 11 – 12) in three selected upazilas of Rangamati district.

Outcome 3: Improved Livelihood opportunities for drop out youth girls.

 Output 1.1: Organized training/ workshop with traditional women leaders, elected women members of Union Parishad and youth girls (secondary level, grade 8 – 10 and higher secondary level, grade 11-12) on gender equality, empowerment and leadership.

Output 1.2: Gained access in taping the public services (e.g safety net, health, education, legal aid, medico- legal etc.)

Output 2.1: Organized groups at community level with youth girls (secondary level, grade 8 – 10 and higher secondary level, grade 11 – 12).

Output 2.2: Organized training/ events for youth girls on life skill and leadership.

Output 3.1: Arranged livelihood training and provide support to drop- out youth girls.

Key activities for 2020:

–           45 targeted beneficiaries involved in 3 headmen-karbari women groups.

–           75 targeted beneficiaries involve in 3 drop-out youth& women groups.

–           350 targeted beneficiaries involves in 14 youth girls groups.

–           1 staff orientation & skill development training was arranged for project staffs.

–           35 non- beneficiaries (Jobless & handicapped girls & women) were got dry food in COVID-19 first weave from project fund.

–           3 inception meeting was arranged with govt. officials & local govt. authorities in 3 upazila’s (Kaptai, Jurachari & Barkal)

–           1 training was arranged for 10 WRO project staffs (28 participants)

–           1 training was arranged for Barkal beneficiaries (27 participants).

–           3 day celebrations were celebrated in 3 upazila’s (Kaptai, Jurachari & Barkal).

–           Training manual develop on youth life skill and arrange 1 training        

–           Rapport building and organize dialogues with different public service institutions.

Achievement:

As the output of our activities, now our beneficiaries are more conscious about their rights. They are raising voices demanding to enjoy their rights. The social influential persons are also being positive for allowing rights. So, in 2020 we achieved the very primary level of rights based empowerment in the community.
